I posted the other day that you should see a lawyer to see if there is anything worth doing. You want a lawyer not to sue them, but to wake the people up.
Since you really didn't incur much damage to person or property, nothing drastic is going to come out of this. The people will not lose their house, the kids won't be tarred and feathered. Life will go on.
But I could see a judge imposing a moderate fine on the parents for being dufuses and letting their kids toss fireworks into the street. and I can see the kids having to do a few hours of community service so they realize they have to take responsibility for their actions.
Remember, a judge will also ask why you didn't just stop instead of trying to go around the firework.
