understeer isn't exactly stable either. Plowing straight into whatever you're going to hit isn't much different than losing the rear in a skid and backing into whatever you're going to hit.
As the saying goes...
Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car.
Oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car.
Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall
Torque is how far you take the wall with you.
I've had both the front and rear wash out on a track at speed and I'll take some oversteer any day. Just my opinion, of course.
