I was trying to say that I do use the AWD CR-V for really snowy conditions, because the ground clearance is helpful. I only got stuck in the CR-V once. (In my side yard! Because I was too lazy to carry a C'Mas tree back to the deck and tried driving through 10" of snow!)
Low ground clearance is the one thing that gives the Saab problems in the snow. The hill I live on is about a mile from top to bottom and twisty. If I beat the snow plow home the Saab has been known to slide sideways on curves once the snow depth it's pushing reaches a critical mass ... even with four new snow tires on it.
So my options are: 1) Just park the Saab and drive the CR-V until March (but why do that for the price of two new snow tires?), or 2) Buy two new snows for the Saab at sale price and drive 'er with 2 new + 2 not-so-new tires when the spirit strikes, or 3) Buy four new all-season tires now for the Saab, which it will need in the Spring, anyway.
I appreciate your comments.
P.S. In 30 years of driving, I only had a vehicle swap ends on ice once, and that was a RWD pickup truck. Yike!
