I wonder if that is one of the reasons so many seem to be bothered by the recent news (there are other reasons for concern of course, many of which I share, but this is not one)? that EVs are perceived as being underpowered + no fun to drive?

I agree that many existing (and future) EVs are glorified golf carts... but they don't have to be. It is perfectly reasonable to make an EV supercar or pickup truck or whatnot. To me there is a lot of opportunity there... That 640hp mini was a real eye opener for me (even though I had previously seen Porsche EV conversions)... massive torque! and no motor under the hood at all... and no transmission... and no friction brakes even! so you put a little diesel generator and some batteries where the engine + tranny were... sure it's a prototype to sell motors, but imho it opens up lots of possibilities!
