If you have to cut a wall surface to get to the pipes and valve, you are MUCH better off cutting and patching the drywall side vs. tile. Tile should be mounted to a water-resistant backing board (good luck getting to to seal again) and removing any tile can quickly turn into a much bigger job when they start cracking and breaking their neighbors during removal.
