diesels, so it should be robust. I joined swedespeed and am getting all kinds of advice on where to go next (the original purpose of this thread). Here is perhaps the best overview of the Drive-E

You have covered it very well in this thread, but here are few more observations on transmissions:
My other car is a 2002 RSX Type-S, no turbo, but 200 HP peaking from 6000-8000 RPM when the VTEC kicks in. It has a manual 6-speed. I rarely go through all the gears in normal driving, usually skipping even gears. But I always get into 6th as soon as possible to get the best MPG. But, when I occasionally feel the need for speed, I wind it out in every gear. Presumably, the software for the new automatics use a similar strategy.
My racecar and snowmobile have ~100HP 500cc Rotax 2-stroke engines and CVT, which keeps the engine RPM at peak horsepower (~8100RPM) as the vehicle accelerates. Presumably, the software for the new automatics use a similar strategy at full throttle and the more ratios it has to work with, the closer it can come to CVT behavior. The race car weighs ~800 lbs and gets to 60MPH in under 4 seconds.
