We have gone with a 2015 Volvo XC60 DRIVE-E T-6 twin charged 2.0L (302 HP, 30MPG hwy), but the Acura RDX was a very close second. Our son Andy, having owned several 9000s, will inherit our 9-5 and likely resume participation on saabnet. Many thanks to everyone who posted information here to help us decide.
Twin charging is not new. From wikipedia: "The concept of twincharging was first used by Lancia in 1985 on the Lancia Delta S4 Group B rally car and its street legal counterpart, the Delta S4 Stradale. The idea was also successfully adapted to production road cars by Nissan, in their March Super Turbo.[1] Additionally, multiple companies have produced aftermarket twincharger kits for cars like the Subaru Impreza WRX, Mini Cooper S, Ford Mustang, Nissan Skyline GT-R, Toyota MR2.
The Volkswagen 1.4 TSI is a 1400 cc engine – utilised by numerous automobiles of the VW Group – that sees use of both a turbocharger and a supercharger, and is available with eight power ratings...."
I had a long talk with a Volvo mechanic who is being trained on the new DRIVE-E engine. He answered all of my detailed questions and noted that the engine is not new, but has been available in Europe in both diesel and petrol variants.
