and have used it since 1979, first in the 1st year of the toyota supra (M4 straight six from the cressida), then in saabs. I have *never* had an internal engine failure. other than the wifes 1985 that got totaled when hit by another car *all* of my cars have gone over 200,000 miles, one is approaching 300k, one at 350k, and the closest I've ever come to internal engine work is a head gasket (ok - three) and all came after an overheat (thermostat failure, split hose, loose nut behind the wheel...). Autoboxes, 5 speeds, turbo, non-turbo, 2.0L, and 2.3L, several of each.
I don't do the 25k oil change, I do the 5k change. turbo and non turbo, all the same. Always used the saab branded blue filters, the mechanics impressed me to do so. I've recently read they may not be the best, not sure.
And I run the crap out of my cars. dboone even saw me try to spinout my Black Aero on the way to Palomar Mountain...
I replace radiators, waterpumps, oil pumps, alternators, belts, hoses, and the like when they need it. I don't cheap out even when my budget it tight.
So after all that rant, I don't get why my (admitedly small sample size) experience is so different than what I'm reading here?
Did they change the formula? Is it like Coke Classic and the New Coke?
Don't the Corvettes specify Mobil-1? Yes, goofy GM.
Keep the information coming, we all need to know.
thanks!
