The same thing happen to me, I switched to M1 0W40 drove for 60k miles then I got rod knock, bearing were worn down to the copper.
I replaced the bearing and rebuilt the motor with Royal Purple. By about 300000 miles, my turbo seal started to smoke and I went to a M1 Deisel oil (experiment). Low and behold, my oil pressure light comes on at idle and only when hot. M1 oil cannot handle the Iron block Turbo heat and the cheap formulation of Mobil 1 does not hold up. After they lost the court battle with Castrol, most of their formulations are Group 3 oil. But even a good group 3 can hold up better.
I am going back to Royal Purple, or will try 20w50
Also Redline oil is attractive but is mail order only and 11.00/qt.
