My 91 9000T running 17-19psi over the lst 2-3 years was fine while using regular Casrtol 20/50wt oil which I change every 2500. After purchasing the Viggen the deqler said Mobil 1 was fine so I bought cases of it. I switched to Mobil1 on the 9000T and after 3-4 months on the oil daily sprited and commuter driving I developed a rod knock. I just figured well I drive it hard sometimes and with 150K miles maybe that's it.
After Walter Wong tore down the motor the rod bearings were trash. He checked oil pressure it was good when cold but was low when hot. He asked the oil used. I said Mobil 1. He said it was not good for the SAAB engine since the oil pump rides on the front timing cover and to build good oil presure you need a oil with better/thicker viscosity.
So now I use the cheap Castrol 20/50 wt oil he recommends and just change it with the filter every 2500 miles with no problems.
