doubling the horsepower of any engine and running the same oiling system as stock. I have a high volume Melling pump in my 400+hp BBC, and I let it warm up (with M1 15-50) because I am afraid it will burst the filter if I get on it right away, the oil pressure gauge is pegged when cold.
You can port and polish the main oil feed channels on the pump housing/timing cover, and blocking off the lines to the balance shafts (if removed) will send more oil everywhere else. And many other type engine builders disable their oil bypass valves if the car is going to be well maintained by a car freak.
Someone mentioned that newer oils have much lower zinc content. There was an artical about this in a recent Hotrod mag, I'll try to find it, because it mentioned some brands, generally for diesels, that still had high zinc. There has been a higher than normal rate of non factory hot rodder engine failures, esp cam lobes, lately, concurrent with zinc reduction.
