The point here that should be recognized is that the oil did break down into a watery mess. This is consistent with everything else I have read about from Hondas to Corvettes and Vipers and Mustangs. I don't have your knowledge about oil, but this tells me that further investigation is needed. For the many of us that have already had tuning work done, it would probably be a good idea to avoid something that has been common in a lot of unexpected failures, wouldn't you agree? You are right about the cars being pushed beyond the design functions, but we all know that they are very robust, having been brought to levels well over 500hp with stock internals and on burning hot dynos without failures. I don't see the harm in bringing the Mobil 1 discussion into the limelight of the performance board, it might save some engines.

You made a very good point about the bearing shells. I would be interested to see the results of that analysis, and what broke first. Hopefully the Southern Gentlemanm Mr. Smith will share his results. :o)
