Why not buy 4 of them (getting the rebate), then only mount two, then mount the other two later? Extra pair of wheels for the OG9-3 are also quite inexpensive.
As for the policy of always mounting new tires on the rear, and relatively more worn tires on the front on a FWD car, the most important safety factor in doing that is actually keeping the car off the road when there is not enough traction on the driving wheel! Just like the old joke about Volvo 240's being too slow to get into serious accidents. Every time, one gets on the road, it's a trade off between a probability of getting somewhere vs. being stopped somewhere away from home. Good snow tires just get one to make unscheduled stops farther away from home. LOL. Of course, removing all wheels from the car and putting the car blocks would be even safer.
Getting hit by some other idiot on a slippery day is far greater than trying figure-8 driving on the same day (and not on an empty parking lot), for most drivers.
