99 axle shafts ?

It just occurred to me that the 99 axle shafts are slightly shorter than in the 900.
When putting 900 front hubs on a 99 you need to use 99 axles or the inner tripods will bottom out in the inner drivers.
Is it possible that somehow the difference in lengths didn't get into the aftermarket system and the shorter 99 axle shafts got mixed into the system for rebuilds ?
