I know it's already a touchy subject, but I can't help but point out that when Porsche saw that buyers wanted an SUV they developed one. When BMW figured out people want an SUV they developed one. When Ford figured out people would buy a Volvo SUV they developed one.
When GM realized they could use a SAAB SUV (much later than everyone else apparently) they simply modified another GM product as it was more cost-effective and they can get it to market faster than actually developing a SAAB SUV. This kind of thing leaves a bad taste in many buyers' mouths as they feel like GM thinks it can pull the wool over peoples' eyes. That's why that Volvo sales person mentioned in an earlier post was quick to point out that the SAAB SUV is basically a Chevy Trailblazer. Same thing with the 9-2X. Nobody out there DOESN'T know it's basically a modified Subaru WRX. Some people feel cheated by this.
Why didn't GM have SAAB develop an SUV of their own from the ground-up a la Volvo?
