A couple of years back my wife and I both drove 9000 CSEs when we found out we were having twins. The CSE trunk, while normally very accomodating, just couldn't handle the assorted accessories transporting twins requires as well as the SUVs we found ourselves looking at, so we joined the demographic Saab hopes to reclaim with the 9-7x.
In researching SUVs to replace one of the 9Ks, safety was generally the first consideration. I recall that the Envoy/TrailBlazer was quickly scratched for terrible crash-worthiness. Putting the rebadging concerns aside, I have a greater concern that the 9-7x might be no better in this area, and thus jeopardize one of the most significant aspects of the brand.
The first 9K was replaced with a Grand Cherokee, the other with a 9-5 Aero. Making the same choices over again, I would still pick the SUV for the family mover, and a car for the other, but the Aero would be challenged by the S60R or any of the numerous other lux/performance cars offering AWD.
