Great posts on this issue....Suggest we e-mail Bob Lutz.
IMO...GM does not know how to position Saab. They are all over the map with the product line and have walked away from the reason they bought Saab in the first place....Maybe. They have said that they purchased Saab as a premium european brand. Saab has really never been that. Saab to its detriment tried to compete with the premium brands by trying to hard on the gadget front....lost their footing and had to sell to survive.
To regain their image and consumer loyality I would do this....
1. Make a semi-fast back hatch back 9/3 with limited slip. Bump the engine up to Aero 2.3 HPT spec.with a 5/6 speed solid auto w/lockup. Offer that as the base model with simple guages and a rugged cloth interior....minimalist like the old 99 or 900. Ditch the three dog gone
computers that cause nothing but problems. The 900 ventalation system is by far still the best I have ever encountered. By now they should be able to make it perfect.
2. Remake the 9000!!! With the new manufacturing techniques and latest technology they should be able to make that slightly larger, quieter, faster, better milage etc. But make it a Saab....not BMW, Mer, Jag or whatever. If you build it...they will come and/or come back.
If you ask I will provide more...
