Like you, I only had stick shift from my first Saab in 1967 through my most recent 2000 9-5 Aero (275K miles). Then, last month I bought a new 2007 9-5 Aero with automatic. I'm sold, automatics have progressed to the point where stick shift only offers microscopic fractional advantages. Stick shift may seem better but the automatics now match their economy and performance. Even most automotive magazines agee that the difference has become marginal.
