It really depends on your commute or area most driven. Nobody likes driving a stick in traffic. I have a twisty mountain commute and wouldn't even consider an auto. I still enjoy working with my car and still find it much more enjoyable to be in control; acceleration and braking where and when you want it. As far as hunting, no auto is ever in the right gear for my conditions. And furthermore, any of the 5-10 "autosticks" I've driven were a joke (although I've never driven a Ferrari w/ paddles). After 32 years of sticks, I've just started double clutching and heel&toeing and I'm hooked all over again.
I'm teaching my daughter to drive right now and we don't have any autos in the family so she's learning. With winter coming up, I emphasize the trouble brakes can get you in and encourage her to understand the gearing and how it can keep you in control, especially on the downhills which we have a lot of. ABS helps but I've had some scary stops(long) w/ ABS in snow and there's nothing worse in snow than an auto in top gear.
Long live the stick !! C.
