She'd driven a Saab 900 in the past (before we met), but being a city dweller did not own a car when we married. Since I lived in the suburbs and owned a home she moved out to join me and so we needed to buy her a car. SHe wanted a Saab. So we bought a used 1984 900S hatchback. Later when we had our first kid, she swapped that for a 1986 900S 4-door.

I was impressed both by the engineering of the car, and by the resale value. Our 1986 four door had 80K miles on it and cost me $1800 to acquire (it was in rough mechanical, but sweet cosmetic shape) and I put about $1200 worth of repairs into it. When we finally sold it with 220K miles on it, I still got $1200 for it (it was still in great cosmetic shape and ran like a top).
