Okay first a disclaimer: I know this is sad but I can't remember exactly when this was... sometime around 1980?

My first car was a 1964 Toyota Corona. Car cost $35.00, condition of sale was that it was sitting dead @ the side of the highway and I had to tow it home. I did so, fixed (sort of) the seized engine, drove it for a couple of years until the engine seized again due to my poor repair work.

Next came a '69 Firebird with a (allegedly) Corvette engine in it. It was fast, but geared stupidly low (~3800 RPM at 60 MPH), guzzled gas (surprise!), and handled like the Flintstones' car... in the dry. Worse on snow.

After a while I got word that a distant relative was selling some sort of weird Swedish car that was not a Volvo (at the time I knew a little above Volvos, zero about Saabs). I went to look at it, noticed it had FWD and folding rear seats and was intrigued. Opened the hood and saw electronic fuel injection and said "Sold!". It was a 1972 99, the "LE" model I think? With the evil Triumph engine. After a couple of years of owning and loving the car but constant head/gasket problems, I stuffed a "real Saab" engine from a '73 99 into it and life was wonderful.
