Back in the mid-1970's I was attending engineering school and I noticed a Saab in the Faculty lot. I don't know the model and I don't know if it was a Stroker or had the V4 engine but it was probably ten years old at the time. The seed of intrigue was permanently planted.
Fifteen years or so later I was working for GM and employees could purchase Saab automobiles (and for a brief time Lotus cars) at discount. I didn't buy one then but the opportunity of discount caused the old seed of intrigue to grow.
Another ten years went by and I got a job transfer wherein my daily commute jumped form 15 miles round trip to over 100 miles. Suddenly I needed a car that offered great fuel efficiency, safety, long life, and driver comfort. I bought a new 2000 9-5 Base Sedan, was there any other choice?.
The greatness of this car resulted in my wife's best friend buying a 9-3SS, my sister buying a 9-3SS, my ex brother-in-law (before he was an ex)buying a 9-2X, and eventually us getting a 9-3SC for the wife.
318,000 miles later we decided the 2000 may be a little long in the tooth for long drives to out of state construction sites, so we sold it and I bought a slightly used 2008 9-5 Aero that I still drive today.
My wife still drives (and loves) her 9-3SC, and this year I got a 2000 Viggen CV for a summer time fun car to celebrate my first retirement.
