It was 1974 ish and I had $1,000 to spend on a car. Can't remember what attracted me to the ad, but the test drive was an over the top sensory experience for a VW bug guy. The 1969 96 was a high quality Swedish crafted automobile, and every bit as homely and unique as any Vdub, and far more practical.
