My biggest beef with electric cars is the gadget-itus that afflicts most of them. I'm not against technology that moves the ball forward. Self driving? Bring it. I specifally traded my Wrangler in on the Honda to get daytime running lights, adaptive cruise, lane keeping, emergency braking, etc. But I absolutely hate taking simple things and making them uber-complitcated. Touch screens not only make things worse, they compromise saftey. Do I really need or want motors and sensors and actuators just to open the car door? And those things do have probalems as those cars age. Does the turn signal really need to be reinvented? I like the Honda Prologue's approach. Normal door handles. Real switches and knobs for the climate control (as on all Honda cars), gages, it looks like a real car inside and out. Of course it's a rebadged GM at this point. I love the simplicity of an electric motor, but then they negate it with all of the senseless complication. And all those gizmo's jack up the price too. My next car will probably be an EV, but there's nothing on the market right now that makes me want to pull the trigger. Slate is building a very simple (manual roll up windows even) truck/sport ute for $25K that's a step on the right direction.
