Do you really think one can run a successful restaurant without accepting credit cards?
The credit card companies essentially created a monopoly with ~90% of all retail transactions done with cards. They did it by making the card very convenient to the buyer (1% rebates, zero liability, no interest grace periods, no need to carry cash) and now use this monopoly to milk the buyers. In my opinion their requirement of the same price cash-or-charge should be made illegal under anti-trust/anti-monopoly clause. This is in the interest of both merchants and consumers (guess who in the end pays all those 3% surcharges). But probability of this passing in senate/congress is close to zero thanks to all those generous donations to both sides of the isle.
