I suspect most people with a Volt are leasing them. I know at least two of the guys who have them in my town are leasing. About $400 a month they tell me.
The economics of hybrids and EVs really don't make sense if one is looking purely for high fuel mileage. You can do nearly as well with a diesel or some econobox like a Fit while spending a lot less on the car and the monthly nut, making the total cost of ownership much less.
The $7500 credit is a diversion. There's also a credit for the Leaf, the Prius, and other hybrids. But that's more of a political issue, not really related to the car itself.
I'd just like to understand why some have this almost reflexive dislike for the Volt. I've never even sat in one and it certainly isn't on my list of cars to consider were I in the market; I just wonder why an intelligent group of car enthusiasts are so down on this particular car.
And again, if Saab were alive and well and the Volt were rolled out as a Saab model, would they all react the same way?
