The X6 equipped with Torque Vectoring and an adequate engine (3.0L turbo 300hp) is really quite a fun "sport coupe" big hatchback to drive around and still have passable gas mileage. When I looked, the 2014 model had 24mpg highway, but the new 2015 coming out now is claiming 27mpg, so even better.
Perhaps due to market/profit maximizing reasons, BMW only offers Torque Vectoring ("Dynamic Performance Control") on X6 and X5M. Every other AWD is only using brakes ("Performance Control") instead of active Torque Vectoring ("Dynamic Performance Control"). I have no use for a gas guzzling turbo V8 like on the X5M (or a complicated self-leveling rear axle air suspension), but I do need occasional 3rd row use as well as cargo capacity, so I ended up with the MDX.
Coming from Saab background, I have learned long time ago that when the critics' primary bone to pick is on styling and quirkiness, that means it's a good car! :-)
