If have found a very effective way to get very high gas mileage out of the MDX: bring the car to a minimum of 40-60mph quickly with the engine running between 2000 to 3000rpm during that acceleration, then let go and put as much pressure gas pedal as possible without letting the instant mpg reading fall from its maximum reading 50mpg (which means relatively little but present pressure on the gas pedal). That's how I'm frequently getting 28-31mpg on my trips. What's happening here is that I'm maximizing the time the engine spends in 3cyl mode during highway cruising.
I doubt that's how Edmunds reviewers drive.
