I'm a Mainer currently living in exile in MA. I will only say that the further North one travels in the Pine Tree State, the higher the rate of travel. I can believe that speeds have increased in the southern part of the state due to the widening, although I found that north of Bangor on 95, all bets are off. I've been in that part of the world, traveling at a "comfortable" rate of speed and been passed with some regularity.
I've noticed there's been no mention of wildlife in the above posts. I think that the 800 lbs moose on the side of the road may pose an even bigger threat than other motorist when talking of speeding in Maine, only my $0.02.
