means. I think it's ike this:

You're in fairly heavy but steadily moving traffic on a highway with 2 lanes in each direction, or maybe you're in the middle lane on a 3 lane freeway. You have a nice following distance set up--say 2+ seconds--and some yahoo comes charging up on the right. Clearly wants to cut between you and the car in the right hand lane that's a length or two ahead of you. You don't want the guy to cut in, so you speed up a bit to block him out. Your following distance shrinks a bit. In your own mind it might be tailgating, but it's still not too bad. And you can probably ease back a bit to increase your following distance anyway in a minute or so

Sure it's a bit aggressive. Is it bad? I dunno, but I've done just that at times to "protect my turf" as Caarma put it. And I suspect -- most of us have done this at one point or another. IMHO, the difference is judgement and how dangerous it is is a given situation.

But at the end of the day, does doing or not make a difference in your day?
