>You have no business trying to affect any other driver's behavior
So if I drive a legal 55mph in the left lane when traffic is moving a 70mph, I would be driving defensively? I'm not affecting anyone else's driving, I’m just cruising down the road minding my own business. However, I am clearly creating a dangerous situation. In my book, that’s not defensive driving, so maybe we do have a different definition. I tend to agree with Caarma’s last post. In an ideal world, leave a big following distance. In the real world, you sometimes have to adapt your driving to less ideal conditions in order to maintain a margin of safety.
I think what is most objectionable about your posts is the tone of your rhetoric, rather than your views on driving. While you are clearly strongly opinionated on the matter, I think that most people on this forum prefer a less aggressive, condescending tone to a debate.
I can pull out plenty of “I’ve driven a lot and have never had an accident” and “I’m from Europe where everyone is a better driver” oratory, but I’m not willing to damn someone else’s driving based on anecdotal experience and a short message board posting. I wouldn’t make a business decision based on so little evidence, and I wouldn’t personally judge someone based on it either.
