I have to agree with Caarma, I would have done the exact same thing.
It is not about teaching a lesson but about not permitting a certain type of abuse. I see that type of unconsiderate, egoist behaviour so often and every time, it gets to me!
Another reason not to let the s-o-b in, is that other cars following will attempt the same, and then you are screwed!
Unless you're following an SUV or other high-rider car where you don't see in front of them, I don't see how closing the gap makes it any more dangerous. Usually, at this point, one gets very attentive!!!
What's more, closing the gap will often box the right lane passer, especially if other cars are following you. Give the person smeothing to think next time he attempts it.
One last thing ChuckD, I'm not sure I understand how being a 'professional' driver makes you so much more of an authority on the subject. Especially when I see, daily, the actions of your colleagues...
