Hi Steve,
you are taking a lot of cycles to prove to the rest of us that your car doesn't do what you want it to do. I've been looking at purchasing a used Suburban for towing and maximum capacity, and the resale values of them continues to drop as the guys using them as daily drivers are realizing that those vehicles aren't doing what *they* want them to do.
I've seen 1993-1999 Suburban ranging in price from $2,000 to $3,500 with miles in the 100k range, as Justin said before perfect vehicle for the 8 days in the year I need that capability.
So consider this, purchase a used truck or van or SUV to do that work that is near the edge of the envelope for your Saab, no matter how you got there. Unless the point is just to prove that you have a vehicle that won't do what you want it to do. Others seem to be able to get similar things done without the issues you relate. Just a thought.
