as to the Nivomats... you can easily do the following on that fateful day. Find *any* 9000 in the year range, 1990 to 1993 non-nivomat, and get those rear springs, if the shocks on the donor car are good get them, otherwise get your favorite brand of shock for the non-CD (ergo non nivomat) car and put the replacement things in. Bogo, Bilstein, Koni, what ever. You will be good to go. I was fortunate enough to meet a guy that sold me his *entire* suspension from a 1996 9000 Aero as he races and went to the high priced spread... Struts, front ARB, bushings, and the same for the rear. You'd be surprised what a pad and paper and an evening drilling around the EPC sofware can prove! Now I have three Aeros! Well not exactly, but close enough!
Also on springs, I haven't heard anyone talk about springs that are tapered with different diameter for soft ride at the beginning and progress to two or sometimes three different zones for progressive stiffness. Of course there are shocks that can be "pumped up" with air, or airhelpers and others too.
But really how much weight do you want to carry anyway? If this is just a few times a year... consider renting something that you can fill up with all your stuff and yet not be at the upper limits of the capabilities of the vehicle. much safer don't you think?
