Here's where I'm going.
I'm reading a non-Saab reference that says that a combustion temperature for ethanol is about 450 degrees F cooler than for gasoline. Less heat migrates into the block and the cooling system has less work to do.
I'm wondering how this might translate to a C900, and in particular, if a reduced demand for cooling might translate into less of a mechanical load on the engine, increasing mileage. The change in mechanical load would supplement any other efficiency differences.
In a (non-Saab) car with belt driven fans, the fans can account for a 10-15% mileage drop. Electric fans are more efficient, but their driving energy still comes out of the fuel one way or another.
