I follow the rationale for the pump. I'm inclined to agree that a cooler engine won't appreciably change the work it does.
The alternator will be called on to provide juice for the cooling fan, less for a cool engine. Electric fans are much more efficient than the old belt driven fans, which used to contribute a 10% mileage loss or so in the bad old days.
Are there any decent advantages to avoiding generating waste heat?
