Here are the numbers: Let's start using hydrogen as everything else is just a bridge to H2...yeah, I know it is hard to find outside DC.
Fuel By mass By volume [1] Percent fuel by mass
Gasoline 14.7 : 1 — 6.8%
Natural gas 17.2 : 1 9.7 : 1 7.9%
Propane (LP) 15.5 : 1 23.9 : 1 6.45%
Ethanol 9 : 1 — 11.1%
Methanol 6.4 : 1 — 15.6%
Hydrogen 34 : 1 2.39 : 1 2.9%
Diesel 14.6 : 1 — 6.8%
So you see you need some monster injectors to get to stochiometric with ethanol. Justin is on target with his commentary, and from a scientific point of view, ethanol is not even good for human consumption....:-)
The only way for ethanol to work in this country is turn Louisiana into one monster sized sugar cane plantation, and drop the $0.54 PER GALLON import tariff the knuckleheads in Washington forced down our throats from lobbyist pressure. But, then that would bring the price down so much that the oil greedheads wouldn't be able to live the good life.
