Cars have life cycle of 10+ years, whereas iPhones and Anroids are updated every 12 to 18 months! Sometimes 6 months. It's hopeless to even try to anticipate what the state of art technology will be in 10 years, or even 5 years, heck, try 3!
Only a good set of speaker system tuned to the particular car's cabin geometry can not be easily implemented from brought-in from portable products that have much much quicker life-cycle and much more competitive market place. Audio-in and USB ports are the ways to capitalize on it.
The flat upper dash (meaning blank; it can curve towards driver for aesthetic reasons) with removable panels and mounting rails hidden behind the panels so that the end user can bring their own tablet computers. The built-in displays that come with cars are quickly rendered obsolete, and the cold winter in the north and hot summer in the south kill LCD displays when the car is parked outside.
Some default dials at the lower part of the dash area for HVAC control. More sophisticated temperature zone controls and car function customizations can go through the USB port for connetion to external pointer/button devices of the user's choice. Small mounting points can be located on the center console and the steeling wheel. A vanishingly small area on the lower dash next to the HVAC dials can be reserved for the radio; the car's FM antennae get better signals than pocket sized device can get while located inside the car's metal cabin.
