Are you really that paranoid about running out of gas or being stranded without a hotel? Or, OMG, delayed in traffic? Use the time to meditate or just mellow and take a break from your overstrung world.
As for "never having anywhere to be" or "never been anywhere you haven't been before" you're wrong on both counts. I have regular appointments in places I haven't been to. I make the great majority of them on time - and I ENJOY the challenge of navigating unknown roads and unexpected conditions getting there. Every once in a while I'm late due to traffic, or a problem finding the precise location (as in which building, or entrance, or where the parking lot is - nothing a GPS would help with most of the time). And you know what? I survive, my customer survives, we still do business, and we are still both breathing the next day.
People really have to learn to chill out. Life should not be a precisely engineered plan run by a swiss time-piece and run at maximum efficiency in every moment.
(Psst - before you brand me a luddite, I've been programming computers since before most of you ever saw one in person. That doesn't mean my life has to be run like one).
