it's highly profitable to keep it that way. Customers and clients do shell out big bucks for extra Sigmas' dependability. That in turn translates into more income for you per hour spent working, and more time available for your own personal enjoyment and to spend with the family.
Speaking of programming, I'm sure you are familiar with "abstraction layers." In my own youth, I used to write self-modifying codes on Apple ][+, and proud of it. In the first year of college, I learned that in a world where processing power is cheap and getting cheaper every day, and one's own stay on the God's green planet is limited, it doesn't pay to juggle a dozen balls in one's head and try to fit a 128k program into 48k of memory. Being able to walk and chew gum at the same time is good, but apparently being able to chew pretzels, watch TV and rock back and forth in a rocking chair is not a necessary requirement for even being the commander in chief . . . there are bigger fishes to fry in life than taking pride in juggling balls that don't pay. Abstraction layers are handy when one sets eyes on the bigger prizes in life.
