Buying clothes at the store teaches people to be lazy and not make them by hand at home. Buying lumber at Home Depot teaches people to be lazy and not chop timber with an axe and saw by hand. Buying milk at the store teaches people to be lazy and not have cows at home.
Technology is 100% about trivializing tasks that can be trivialized. Unless you are Amish (and maybe even if you are) you are probably, by your own definition, lazy and/or functionally retarded. There are people in the world who do things that you don't, and while you are studying your AAA maps they have a compass and an astrolabe. Drawing an arbitrary line in technology and calling one half "lazy" and the other half "not" is a judgment call that you are making, like calling a person with a different political affiliation stupid because they see a problem differently than you do.
Technophobe may not be the right description, but you are trying to establish a higher value for you than people who do things in a different way. Maybe that store clerk coincidentally wasn't very bright, but employing a calculator (or GPS) isn't a sign of that slowness, it's a sign of recognizing a tool that will simplify a task and employing that tool. I use a calculator to do basic math all the time. I don't think I'm stupid, though perhaps you will disagree. In my life, I surround myself with tools so that I can do as many things as efficiently as possible. I was - perhaps errantly - under the impression that was a significant component of why we emerged as the dominant species on this planet. I did not realize there was a point at which we shop stop developing new tools and maintain the status quo. My bad.
