That was the case in the late 1970's and 1980's, in many mortgages in the US. It has not been the case in the past couple decades in the US. In fact, the Congress had to pass a special law to make owner-occupied residential mortgage assumable by direct blood relatives (if the inheritor lives in the property or moves there) without triggering a sale/callable event.
