Anil - as an owner of a 2003 SS with 170k miles, and quite familiar with the Saab parts shortages and availability issues, let me weigh in. I take exception to your comment "However, it certainly was not my expectation to be paying so much more for something that was available and priced for much less." I support Chad on this one, and from an owners perspective, same car, same part, same issue, you are way way off base here.

Why? I paid about $800 to replace the SAI check valve and pump, using the local dealer. Could I get the part again today? No. Could I get the work done cheaper today? No. Why? No dealer, they are all closed. Sure you will have some guy in the back of a parts deparment somewhere tell you that "they can get the part...they warehouse says its in stock". Saab Parts NA, formerly Saab Cars USA, hasn't updated their inventory list. Its a mess. Ask the same dealer who told you their price (the one who told you the lower price, not Chad) what their fill rate it. If you dont know what that is, you have no business telling Chad he charged you too high a price. MSRP is irrelevant, he is not a franchised dealer, as there are none left. Franchise agreements are terminated, Saab has ceased to exist. And even if Chad was a franchised dealer, most dealers were charging over MSRP for their high demand parts knowing there were/are no more on the way. You, like me, were lucky to get the part. At any price. There will be more stories like this. If you ever need a hood, an obscure interior piece, another SAI valve, let me know and I will sell you my car. Its worth more in parts than whole.

Take your car to your local dealer and ask them to quote you parts and labor. THen ask them to do the work, see if they can fulfill their quote. I bet you a nice dinner they can't do it. You will find Chads price quite reasonable.
