"Yes, the trionic has a map sensor, well two infact to be honest.
The only problem with the MAP and T7 is that the sensor cant detect small changes between the "measured" airflow and the theoretically resulting pressure. You could roughly say that it can only see big changes, like thouse caused by mechanical failure. From reliable sources its stated that the MAP can live with differences of over 30% between measured pressure and the values trionic is expecting.
For instance if you have an airleak before TB (airmass OK, boost slitly lower), the car wont give you a fault."
Give that the WIS states the manifold pressure sensors in the T5 and T7 give the exact same volatge reading for any given pressure, then what you are saying must apply to the T5 as well as to the T7.
From WIS for both T7 and T5 MAP sensor:
Power supply = 5V
25 kPa = 0.9v
50 kPa = 1.3v
100 kPa = 2.1v
125 kPa = 2.5v
150 kPa = 2.9v
175 kPa = 3.3v
"You could roughly say that it can only see big changes, like thouse caused by mechanical failure. "
NOT TRUE AT ALL...WIS for T7 clearly states:
The MAP sensor has a similar function as in
earlier Trionic systems, but the MAP sensor has
been redesigned and now screws directly into
the intake manifold.
• Informs the control module of the pressure
after the throttle.
• Used to correct the air mass flow sensor's
value during fast changes in load.
During rapid load changes, the engine load or calculated are mass/combustion based on the mass air slow sensor value can differ from the actual air mass being taken into the cylinder during the induction stroke. This is due to the inertia of the large volume of are present in the intake system. The intake pressure is therefore used during load changes to correct the air mass/combution used in the basic calculation of the fuel quantity.
The pressue is also used to correct the purge PWM ratio. A greater PWM ratio is required at high instake pressures to obtain the same purge flow.
