1) T7 is programmed for the anticipated hardware (and VE, AM, etc) that it should see, with allowances
for wear, mfg differences, small leaks, etc.
2) HW changes will cause lambda (or other feedback) changes that will trigger the T7 SW to adapt
via fuel injector time, boost pressure, and/or ignition timing adaptation.

Adaptions take place as soon as the calibrated values of the PID doesn't match 100% with the actual. In other words lambda does not see 1 under closed loop. This can happen in case of mechanical failure or hardware modification. Every part of the engine has originally been calibrated (cosidering some tolerance) during the development, from the airfilter to the endpipe.

Boost pressure is not a variable in T7, only airmass counts. If airmass is being held constant, boost will alter due to humidity, altitude, ambient pressure, temp. Looking at plain boost value does not get you any were if you dont know the other variable like, temp in TB and VE.
Basic adaptions are boost and fuel. Fuel adaption has been discussed in other posts in this tread. Knock control shall not be forgotten either, but it is a learning funcktio. Knock wont affect the first two adaptions.
Knock function can be though of a way for the ECU to know how knock resistant the engine is.

3) Just because the adaptation takes place and the correction factors have been implemented, this does DOES NOT mean that you will have normal operation in all scenarios. Poor driveability (torque spikes, poor transitional response), MPG, emissions, A/F ratio, etc. may suffer even though everything is adapted correctly

This is exactly what I'm trying to tell. For instance take a look at the boost graph posted by Eric here http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/bb/performance/index.html?bID=87479
We may have different perspective when we look at these things, but I dont consider that boost curve to be normal Trionic like behaviour. It clearly indicates that the valus are "ower shoot" and a spike is formed in boost curve. On the other hand there might be those who dont see this as a problem consider this a good thing when we have more boost even though it does spike.
Drivebility is a other quetions, the more power you have the more pain in the butt these spikes are, you will end up loosing traction, putting extra stress on drivtrain parts aso and the car wont be any faster than with a "smooth" curve.
