There was 3 thou taken off the head. Machinist said it wasn't cracked. There was some minor pitting, made very minor once skimmed. It was away from any oil or coolant passages. I understand that it could hold heat though.
When I run the car I normally wait for one more fan cycle to complete before I shut it down. To try and avoid cooking the oil in the turbo. I've only ever had the fans come on once when I didn't do that after shut down. The hissing is there for a while and there have been traces of coolant on the underside of the cap. I'm almost certain the head gasket is fine though.
Never heard of cam warpage. Interesting. Had the valve cover off the other day and didn't see anything untoward on the cam lobes. I replaced the over cam oil tubes when I had the head done.
I'll check the plugs for cleanliness. If they're all sparkly then theres some coolant going where it shouldn't. I'll post some pics if I can.
I don't know for sure, but I have a strong feeling that the rust in the water jackets is keeping it all very toasty.
