I'll take a look at the plugs. When I last checked the piston tops were clean, not water blasted as I mentioned before, but no visible hot spots.
I'll check for any missing bolts underneath the manifold and throttle body.
I found a hardened end on one of the solenoid hoses. Had a spare so swapped it in. I'll test again tomorrow to see if there's any difference now it appears nice and tight on there. There was a little oil in the hose coming from the turbo up to the apc solenoid.
The only other thing I can think of now is a vacuum leak, bad timing due to the slight compression change or heat in the cylinders caused by rusty water jackets causing the spark knock. Think I'm going to try a thermocure cleaning. I've read good things. Maybe they were paid for editorial good things, but worth a shot if it doesn't do any harm.
So thankful that the knock sensor is doing its job. At least that works!
