No worries!
I run a pair of Weber carbs on an old BMW 2002 race car, so detonation and I are old friends.

The flaking means it's detonating, and the lack of any beading or porcelain damage means it's
not bad at all-- kinda like your APC is doing its job perfectly!

Yeah, I saw the post about the hole (!!!) after I posted. Mine's new to me
and hasn't been maintained well, so I guess I'd better give it a once- over, too.
Maybe that's the excuse I need to finally make a usable smoke machine...
