So needing to solve this. (My brain refuses to let this go), I tore into the turbo tubing last night to get a look at the turbo...I found that the plastic intake tube, turbo end, has split, revealing a gaping, (well...4mm by 2mm), hole at the turbo end. Looks like I’ll need to find another one of those.
After the way was clear I took a look at the intake side of the turbo. The hole has let in lots of dust and partially sand blasted the fins. There is also some metallic dust on the housing caused by some lateral movement in the turbine shaft. So I tried to spin it and it’s binding. Not stuck, but there is a lot of friction there. It’s definitely not spinning freely. I’m going to tear it down and see what might have happened.
So I guess that little lot might explain the heat and perhaps the detonation along with the lack of boost.
If anyone knows a source for that plastic inlet tube, please let me know!
Thanks again!
