Thanks for taking the time to have a read through. It’s a long thread!
I’ve had the distributor out and the hall sensor does move when I apply pressure using a bicycle pump. I’m not sure how far it’s supposed to move, but when testing with the pump with the distributor on the engine it does retard the timing down to about 11 degrees. I do have a spare distributor from an 85 turbo that I can try if the problem persists.
However, on further inspection the other night, I found a significant crack in the black plastic intake tube, turbo end.
I believe this is providing a lean condition due to unmetered air. When examining the spark plugs the ground strap is clean but with a yellow chalky residue. I believe this to be fuel deposits from them being washed with fuel where the fuel system is trying to compensate.
Turbo inspection has revealed some sand blasting to the compressor fins. I’m guessing from the intake hole allowing dust and debris to get in post air filter.
Will replace the pipe once I find one and report back.
